5 Tips for Starting Your Health Journey

Habits to Get You Started

Starting your health journey can be very intimating. There is so much conflicting

information out there on the internet that it can make it difficult to know where to even

begin. I want to help simplify it for you with just 5 basic tips, that I feel can help anyone

begin their fitness journey!

1.  Commit to less

Have you ever noticed that when the new year’s come around, everyone makes these

HUGE goals (whatever they may be). Most people statistically stop purposing these goals

soon after. When we do not have a habit that is established yet, trying to go full throttle

will NEVER work. Habits are built over time and have unrealistic goals will only lead you

to frustration. This is why committing to a smaller more attainable goals works. If you

commit 10 minute a day to moving your body in some way, you will soon find it to be a

habit. This small action will snowball into something much bigger. You will be able to

begin working out may 20 minute 3 times a week and going for a short walk the other

days. In the end you will be so proud of yourself and that feeling will become something

you crave.

2.   Approach It With The 80/20 Rule

When starting to eat healthy most people go cold turkey. Just like I was discussing above unrealistic goals only lead to frustration and failure most of the time. Approach food in a way of

not restricting but becoming a healthier version of yourself is the way to go. Aim to eat 80% of your meals consisting of whole nutrient dense foods, while 20% can be those less

nutrient dense foods. there is no good or bad food, and every food has place in a healthy balanced diet. This approach is the definition of balanced and is 10x more sustainable than any

fad diet you will do!

3. Make a Morning Routine

Having a morning routine really has helped me in my health journey (I will be doing a detailed post about this to come).  Starting your way with a routine sets your days up in the best way.

When you intentionally make time to sit with yourself, do your quiet time, or journal helps us be more present throughout the day. When gratitude is incorporated as well, studies have

shown that it helps rewire a person’s brain to becoming more positive. Morning routine also help us relax. Try not looking at your phone in the morning and I bet you will notice (after

doing it for a while) that you are more relax, less anxious, and more energized to conquer the day. Your routine does not have to be long. It can literally be just 5 minutes every morning.

4.  Schedule

Scheduling in workouts into our daily calendar will increase your odds to actually show up. We all live busy lives running around from place to place so its extremely important that we

carve out those “ 10 minute” into our daily routine in order to actually show up. This could be during your morning routine. Maybe, you want to wake up drink your coffee will journaling

and then do your 10 minutes of movement before you even look at your phone. I love to work out in the morning so I schedule my workout as part of my morning routine.

5. Incorporating Rest

Finally, my last it is to make sure you find time to rest. We are not programmed to always be going. We have to have our rest and find relaxation. I would be lying to you if I said that I do

not struggle with rest. However, it is something I am truly trying to prioritize and incorporate.

When we our constantly on the go our cortisol (stress hormone) is constant high and can lead to some health complication in the long term. Make sure you have a rest day from working

out and do something that truly relaxes you. Do an activity that brings you joy, take that nap, or read that book. Rest is EESENTIAL in order to live a happy sustainable balanced lifestyle.

Try incorporating these 5 tips and see your life transform. It’s a lifestyle not a destination. Make sure that what you are doing is something you truly enjoy and can see yourself doing for

the rest of your life.
